As we all know, the three main printing equipments supplier have released top printers one after another in recent years. Only in 2006, EPSON released EPSON 7800/9800 eight-color new printer models on the base of original seven-color Epson 7600/9600; CANON released Canon iPF5000/8000/9000 etc. 12-color new printer models on the base of original Canon W6400/8400 six-color printers; In succession, HP released 24’’ and 44’’ eight-color HP Z2100 and 12-color HP Z3100. From the new released printer models, we will find that all the printers adopt pigment ink. We can get a conclusion: No matter in Digital Image, Digital Printing, OA, Fine art reproduction, or Digital Textile printing field, pigment ink is the trend.
While every printer manufacturer begins to release printers with resolution above 4800dpi, people’s requirements of printing consumables are becoming higher and higher. High quality printing ink should not only meet the needs of finer and finer print head, but also have higher level on light fastness and waterproofness. The traditional dye ink, because of its poor resistance to water and light, can no longer meet the needs of high quality printing; while oil-based solvent ink, because of obvious grain and poor color performance, can not reach the performance of dye ink, therefore, it can only occupy certain market share in outdoor printing market which requires high lightfastness but not particular in color performance. Pigment has high resistance to water, light and weather. Chinese frescos can retain vivid color after more than one thousand and six hundred years, that is because they are painted with mineral pigment. However, on color vividness and performance, pigment ink can not reach dye ink. Nano technology makes possible to solve that problem. Comparing with traditional pigment, Hongsam adopts pigment ink with smaller nano particles and higher specific surface area; therefore, its spectrum property is changed. Its action spectrum becomes narrower and color is more saturated. Nano pigment ink not only retains the high resistance to water, light and weather of traditional pigment, but also gets fine vivid color performance of dye.
Recently, the author paid attention to a Chinese brand ink manufacturer --- Hongsam. Its released “Century Clear Color” series pigment ink, applied in Digital Image, Digital Printing, OA, Digital Textile Printing, etc. fields, have improved color performance and keeping time of prints, met people’s growing requirements of color performance and realized no fading in a century. Up to now, Hongsam’s six-color “Century Clear Color” for desktop printers, “Century Clear Color” for Hp, “Century Clear Color” pigment ink for Canon, “Century Clear Color” B/W series are quite popular among customers.
Moreover, since May 2003 when Hongsam released its first “Century Clear Color” pigment ink, Hongsam has kept promoting the application of pigment ink on industrial magazines and websites. Following is the progress:
In Mar.2003, Hongsam released six-color pigment ink for Epson 7500/9500 large format printers, and applied patent of “Century Clear Color” brand.
In early 2004, Hongsam released seven-color pigment ink for Epson 7600/9600 large format printers.
In Jul.2004, Hongsam developed its four to seven color pigment ink for desktop printers, and applied for patent of six-color Century Clear Color pigment ink for desktop printers which is a world famous brand till now, making vast users have brand awareness of brand while using compatible inks.
In Sep.2005, while Canon W6400/8400 wide format printer is released, Hongsam developed corresponding pigment ink, promoting the sale of these printer models in China, which firstly realized using pigment ink on thermal printers.
2006 was a fast developing year of pigment ink, also a harvest year for Hongsam pigment ink. In this year, Hongsam released “Century Clear Color K3” pigment ink for Epson 7800/9800, “Century Clear Color” pigment ink for HP Z2100/3100, “Century Clear Color” pigment ink for Canon Ipf5000/8000/9000 etc. printers, and six color pigment ink for Epson R230/270 etc. up to 102 kinds of pigment ink, including almost all the printer models from desktop to large format printers.
